See One UI 8.5 Running on a Galaxy S24 Ultra
One UI 8.5 is the upcoming major update for Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets, and many users are eagerly awaiting its release. Samsung has decided to skip versions One UI 8.1 and 8.1.1, moving directly from One UI 8.0 to 8.5. The official launch of One UI 8.5 is expected next year, coinciding with the release of the Galaxy S26 series.
Samsung plans to run a One UI 8.5 beta program for select existing devices. However, as of December 5, the company has not confirmed which models will be included in this beta. It remains unclear whether the Galaxy S24 lineup will be part of the beta testing. Despite this uncertainty, you don’t have to wait to see One UI 8.5 in action on Samsung’s 2024 flagship device.
Early Look at One UI 8.5 on the Galaxy S24 Ultra
We managed to install an early build of One UI 8.5 on the Galaxy S24 Ultra and have screenshots available for review. From what we observed, nearly all features seen in the leaked One UI 8.5 builds for the Galaxy S25 Ultra are also present on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This suggests a high level of consistency between the two devices in terms of the new software experience.
Interestingly, some camera modes are missing across these devices. The latest One UI 8.5 test builds for both the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 lack Dual Rec and Single Take modes. The Galaxy S24 Ultra also does not have these camera modes in the early build. This pattern hints that Samsung might be planning to merge these camera modes in the future, although this remains speculative at this point.
What’s Missing and What to Expect Next
The new Galaxy AI features that are set to debut with the Galaxy S26 are also absent from the current One UI 8.5 build on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This is not surprising, as Samsung is expected to start porting these AI features to older devices only toward the end of the One UI 8.5 beta program. Alternatively, these features might be released separately after the Galaxy S26 lineup is officially announced.
